PSA stands up against corruption─── LEATILE LEIEE 14:06 Thu, 20 Aug 2020
The Public Servants Association (PSA) is appalled with the alleged plans of government to access pensioner’s funds to finance the failing state owned entities such as Eskom and SAA.
According to PSA spokesperson, Lynsie Pelser, the Government Employees Pension Fund is said to hold R1.8 trillion and is already giving out what they deem an insufficient 3.6% cost of living adjustment to pensioners - to sustain themselves amidst the current economic crisis due to the Covid-19.
The PSA is of the view that this yet another act of government looting and corruption, which is now putting the lives of children’s futures and livelihoods in jeopardy.
Pelser says: ‘’A Government tainted with corruption, that cannot fully account for the R500 billion sponsored to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, and that fails to honour the agreed salary increases for its employees, has not earned the credibility or trust of the nation to have access to more funds.’’
She further says the looting and corruption saga regarding VBS Mutual Bank is a clear indicator that pension money should not be utilised to open state banks.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of Government Communication and Information Systems, Phumla Williams, could not be reached for comment.
The PSA represents more than 240 000 public servants and retired public servants and says that they call on government to take decisive action against corruption.
