Fraudulent NSFAS students to face legal action─── 18:00 Wed, 26 Aug 2020

Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande says legal action will be taken against students who were found to have misrepresented their financial status in an attempt to make use of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
In a media briefing on Wednesday, he said NSFAS has removed 5000 students from its system.
"The decision was due to recent financial information obtained from the South African Revenue Service, which revealed that there were discrepancies on the total household income declared by the students and verified household income as per SARS data.”
He warned students that they will face legal action.
"We must raise the strongest concern and objection to any student who has deliberately submitted false information, to gain and con the system. This is a case of unethical and corrupt behaviour. Where proven, legal action will be taken against these culprits by NSFAS and it will further seek to reclaim the funds from those students who were attempting to defraud the scheme."
