Cabinet approves climate change plans─── 08:59 Mon, 14 Sep 2020
Cabinet has given the go-ahead to climate change, emissions reduction, and waste management plans.
The Presidential Climate Change Coordinating Commission will oversee the transition.
The commission, to be chaired by a presidential nominee, will have to ensure South Africa contributes to the global emissions reduction goal. It will be expected to advise and guide the country’s climate change response.
The commission’s first task will be to understand the impact of climate change on jobs.
A preliminary budget of R50-million has been recommended for the commission's five-year term.
