#Covid19: Announcement of move to level 1 expected─── 15:50 Mon, 14 Sep 2020
Expectations are high that an announcement will be made this week about the country moving to level 1 of the lockdown.
President Cyril Ramaphosa indicated during an engagement with the SA National Editors’ Forum last week that he will address the nation this week, and health minister Zweli Mkhize said in a radio interview on the same day that the declining number of Covid-19 infections may see the country move to level 1 of the lockdown in a few days’ time, BusinessLIVE reports.
In terms of the rules, level 1 will mean that all economic activity will resume, with mining and manufacturing at 100% employment. All public administration and government services will be permitted. However, it is possible that public gatherings will continue to be prohibited.
The state of disaster ends tomorrow, but the cabinet has approved its extension to October 15.
