Lungisa to begin jail sentence─── 09:28 Thu, 17 Sep 2020
Former ANC Nelson Mandela Bay councillor, Andile Lungisa, is counting the hours before starting his two-year jail sentence on Thursday.
Lungisa was found guilty of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm after attacking a DA councillor during a scuffle in the NMB council in 2016.
He was sentenced to three years, with one year suspended with conditions.
Last week, the Supreme Court of Appeal dismissed Lungisa's appeal against his sentence.
On Wednesday, the NPA received his application to appeal his sentence to the Constitutional Court.
Lungisa is also applying for an extension of his bail pending the outcome of his appeal application.
His bail application will be heard on Monday, but the NPA says it will oppose it.
