The High Court in Johannesburg is hearing former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi’s appeal to be released on bail on Monday morning.

Agrizzi was denied bail by the Palm Ridge Specialised Crimes Court earlier this month.

He is facing fraud and corruption charges in connections with payments he allegedly made to former African National Congress (ANC) MP Vincent Smith.

During his bail hearing, the state argued that Agrizzi was a flight risk as he failed to disclose assets totalling more than R30 million.

He has since fallen ill and has been receiving treatment in a private hospital.

"The Investigating Directorate had on 14 October contended that Agrizzi lied in his previous bail affidavit of 6 February 2019, where he told the court that he and his wife own movable assets valued at approximately R2.6 million and immoveable property valued at approximately R14 million," says Investigating Directorate spokesperson Sindisiwe Twala.

"The true position is that as of 6 February 2019, the family-owned movable assets (excluding household furniture, jewellery and art) of R35.6 million and not R2.65 million.”
