The State Capture Commission, probing allegations of corruption and fraud in the Public Sector - including state-owned enterprises like Eskom, the NPA and SAA - has been given a lifeline to fund its expenses.

Speaking during his midterm budget policy statement (MTBPS), Finance minister Tito Mboweni on Wednesday announced that the commission has been allocated R63 million.

He says this is to investigate, finalise hearings and produce a report. The Commission, which is chaired by deputy chief justice, Raymond Zondo, has so far managed to expose the rot within national government departments, provincial and national entities (including the Bosasa scandal), as well as the failed Free State Vrede dairy and Asbestos projects.

The commission previously changed venues to the Hill on Empire in Parktown, Johannesburg, following criticism from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the Fourum4Service Delivery (F4SD), accusing the commission of wasting millions on a privately owned venue.
