The ANC Top Six say they did not discuss whether ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule should step down during an emergency meeting held on Tuesday.

This after Ace Magashule was hit with a warrant of arrest by the Free State Hawks and is expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Addressing the media during a virtual briefing on the outcomes of this meeting on Wednesday, Deputy Secretary-General Jessie Duarte and Treasurer-General Paul Mashatile said that the under-fire Magashule addressed the top officials on his desire to co-operate with the law and even mentioned how he wishes that supporters would not print T-shirts or banners of him during his ongoing case. Mashatile said the Top Six did not venture into discussing whether Magashule should be stepping down.

Duarte said officials reserve the right to reconsider the matter to ensure the Secretary-General goes through the legal processes and that the processes are fair and without prejudice.

On behalf of the Top Six, Duarte pleaded with all public sectors to allow the law to take its course. Mashatile indicated that the ANC has no problem with members supporting the controversial Secretary-General.
