Tributes pour in following AG's death─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 06:11 Thu, 12 Nov 2020
Tributes continue to pour in for the friends and family of Auditor-General Kimi Makwetu, following news of his death.
According to the AG's office, Makwetu died of stage 4 lung cancer on Wednesday afternoon. Makwetu was preparing to leave office at the end of November, at the expiry date of his seven-year non-renewable term at the helm of the Office of the Auditor-General.
Makwetu is described by other Chapter 9 institutions as a selfless leader, who was hardworking and served the country with due diligence. Many political leaders, including president Cyril Ramaphosa, described his death as a huge loss to the country.
Makwetu has in his reports always advocated for accountability, political leadership in government institutions and sound financial management.
OFM News has previously reported on several local government audit reports and departmental reports where Makwetu expressed concern over the deteriorating state of municipalities and services delivered to people at grass-root level.
