Leaked #MatricExams: Union heads to court─── 06:00 Mon, 07 Dec 2020
The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department wants to engage further with teacher unions about the rewrite of leaked matric exam papers.
This, after the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) announced their plan to file court papers on Monday, challenging the rewrite.
Provincial MEC, Kwazi Mshengu, says he trusts an agreement can be reached out of court.
The scheduled, first-ever, national rewrite by the Department of Education follows leaks of two papers. SADTU has labelled the decision by the department as irrational.
Speaking to eNCA on Sunday, department spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga, says they have been expecting legal resistance from unions.
"It is a situation that we planned for. Our legal teams are considering all possibilities, in terms of what the response from the department is going to be," he said.
