President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation on Monday.
It follows a special sitting of Cabinet, which considered recommendations of the National Coronavirus Command Council.
The country has entered its second COVID-19 wave. This follows a rapid spike in new infections.
The country has recorded 7,882 new COVID-19 infections over the past 24 hours.
