Mkhwebane faces perjury charges─── 11:20 Wed, 16 Dec 2020
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, is facing perjury charges.
According to court documents, Mkhwebane is due to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on 21 January.
She is being accused of not being honest in the way she investigated a loan from the South African Reserve Bank to Bankcorp - which now forms part of Absa.
According to Public Protector spokesperson, Oupa Segwale, there has been an increase in people taking the Public Protector on review.
"This is because they can no longer wish the findings away, if they have issues they go to court," says Segwale.
Government spends on legal action, so the office has not choice by to take part in those cases, says Segwale.
