This comes after the Department of Health reported an increase of more than 14 000 on consecutive days.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize released the latest Covid-19 statistics on Saturday evening.

South Africa recorded 11 552 new Covid-19 cases during the latest reporting period 24-hours, bringing the total number of cases to 994 911.

The country has also recorded 245 new Covid-19 related fatalities, pushing the death toll to 26 521.

"Regrettably, today we report 245 more COVID-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 118, Gauteng 12, KwaZulu-Natal 57, Mpumalanga 3 and Western Cape 55. This brings the total to 26 521," Mkhize said in a statement.
