All inmates are eligible for parole after serving minimum sentence─── 10:11 Sat, 06 Feb 2021
The Department of Correctional Services says it cannot comment nor confirm if Oscar Pistorius is eligible for parole in 2023.
Department spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo, says they have noted media reports that Pistorius is eligible for parole in 2023.
"We have seen the media reports they emanate from a correction from a judgment of the Supreme Court of Appeal around the dates.
"Meaning he started serving the current sentence in 2016, but then it was culpable homicide which was converted into murder.
"That was the only procedure by the court, meaning when you start calculating his sentence, you start calculating from 2016.
"We wouldn't want to comment on what is reported 2023, what we can state is that all inmates are eligible for consideration after having spent the minimum required time," says Nxumalo.
