#CoronavirusSA: Cases decreasing but danger remains - CSIR─── 20:00 Sun, 14 Feb 2021
The latest figures show that nearly 1.5 million people have contracted COVID-19 in South Africa, and over 47,000 people have passed away because of the virus.
Cases have continued to drop compared to over 20,000 daily, earlier this year.
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) says, we are not out of the danger zone yet, and the risk of a third wave remains.
"I wouldn't say there we are out of the woods, but I would say that we passed the second wave of COVID-19", said Dr Ridhwaan Suliman of the CSIR.
The Health Department reported 151 more COVID-19 related deaths, taking the death toll in South Africa to 47,821.
Over 2,300 new cases have been recorded in the past 24-hours.
SA's COVID-19 recoveries are at 1,385,996.
