#Eskom: What would it take to keep the lights on?─── 08:17 Sat, 06 Nov 2021
What exactly would it take to keep South Africa’s lights on?
Stage 2 blackouts kicked in on Saturday morning and will continue for the rest of the weekend.
Old and unmaintained equipment has been the main challenge for Eskom.
“The capacity gap that we got at the moment is between 4,000 and 6,000 megawatts," said Eskom CEO André de Ruyter.
"That is the size of a large power station like Medupi running flat out.
"That is what we need to get enough space to repair and fix our old coal power stations."
