#Typhoid: Municipalities must conduct water tests─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 05:29 Thu, 24 Feb 2022
The Department of Water and Sanitation urges municipalities to conduct tests of water quality for human consumption.
According to the departmental spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau, this follows after the department has received multiple enquiries regarding the quality of drinking water in light of the increasing cases of typhoid fever in the country.
The test results will also stop misinformation going around on social media, therefore it is advisable the test be conducted whether gastro-intestinal related cases have been reported or not. OFM News’ Corn Koteli reports that the National Institute for Communicable Diseases has also set out some guidelines that the public can follow.

The public must wash hands with soap and safe water before eating or preparing food, and after using the toilet or changing a baby’s nappy.
If people are concerned about the quality of water they use for drinking and cooking, it is recommended to treat the water by boiling it first. For food safety, keep your hands clean; separate raw and cooked food; cook thoroughly; keep food at safe temperatures; and use safe water and raw materials.
