#IllegalMining: 28 undocumented people arrested─── 06:09 Tue, 09 Aug 2022
At least 28 undocumented individuals were arrested in Randfontein on Monday.
Tractors have also been deployed to close off areas where illegal miners are believed to be operating.
Last week angry residents went on a rampage, protesting against illegal mining.
They torched shacks believed to be housing zama zamas and vowed to flush them out of the area.
West Rand District Police Commissioner Fred Kekana was in Mohlakeng to engage with the community.

"What happened last week with the community, we engaged with the community including the councillors. We set up a plan on an agreement to say we will address specific issues which are crime, drugs, firearms and the main issues are the illegal miners.
"We agreed with them we are going to bring in enforcement to ensure that their concerns are addressed properly. That's what we did on Friday," Kekana said.
"We arrested South African citizens for possession of drugs. Out of that we also managed to arrest today [Monday] just here in Randfontein, we arrested 28 undocumented persons."
