Salga will ensure municipalities only hire qualified personnel─── 14:30 Mon, 28 Nov 2022
The South African Local Government Associations (Salga) have committed to carrying out the president's declaration that there will be no more unqualified officials leading local governments.
According to an article by the East Coast Radio's Noxolo Miya, the association will now make sure that jobs assigned within municipalities are performed by qualified, competent candidates.
The council of one of the municipalities was disbanded by parliament as a result of repeated violations, according to President Cyril Ramaphosa.
According to the president, other municipal governments around the nation that are underperforming should take note of this.
Bheke Stofile of Salga says hiring people based on political connections is still a challenge.

"We are making the call to those who have been hired because they have the abilities, have received the necessary training from various institutions of higher learning, and are prepared to serve the town."
In an effort to improve service delivery, Stofile claims it has been working for years to make sure that municipalities hire individuals with relevant capabilities.
"That's what we think. Yes, the president's remarks refer to the trip that we have been hoping to witness and shape over the years."
