Bill for national healthcare to be tabled next year─── 05:17 Tue, 13 Dec 2022
The Minister of Health, Joe Phaahla, says there's been significant progress on the National Health Insurance Bill, taking South Africans closer to universal healthcare coverage.
Phaahla says the Bill will be tabled in the National Assembly next year once it's been finalised.
"After nearly three years of hard work with breaks due to Covid, our parliamentary committee has been working very hard in processing the Bill, which my predecessors tabled in Parliament," he said.
"Where we are now, significant progress has been made. In the coming year, they will be able to finalise it and table it before the full sitting of the National Assembly.
"Of course, in our system, from the National Assembly, it still has to go to the National Council of Provinces."
