SPCA urges pet owners to be extra vigilant on New Year's Eve | News Article

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) urged pet owners to be extra vigilant during New Year’s Eve celebrations.

The NSPCA has urged the public to spare a thought on how fireworks adversely affect animals.

“What may sound like a balloon popping to us, may very well sound like an explosion to some animals,” said spokesperson Keshvi Nair.

Nair has reiterated the animal welfare organisation’s call to refrain from using fireworks.

Fireworks and New Year’s Eve celebrations have become synonymous.

“Fireworks frighten animals,” Nair continued.

She urged pet owners to take extra precautions to minimize the impact of the firecrackers on their furry companions.

“Many animals end up running away to get away or hide away from the fireworks which results in them being lost. Some run into the road and are at the mercy of the traffic. Wild and farm animals are also affected and must be considered as well.”
