Since Saturday, a generating unit each at Camden, Grootvlei, Lethabo and Majuba power stations suffered a breakdown and is undergoing repairs. While units at Kriel and Lethabo power stations have been returned to service, there's been a delay in returning units at Duvha, Matla and Tutuka power stations.

Planned maintenance amounts to 6 049 MW while breakdowns currently amount to 17 163MW of generating capacity.

In a statement, Eskom requests that members of the public assist "by reducing the usage and to sparingly use electricity".
