Driving licence printer working again – Transport─── 14:10 Mon, 19 Jun 2023
The National Department of Transport said the driving licence card production machine is back in operation.
The machine had to be taken out of production last month in order to replace a broken part that was identified during routine maintenance.
The departmental spokesperson Collen Msibi said a backlog of 350 000 cards built up since the machine had gone for repairs five weeks ago.
"The machine testing after the part replacement took another two weeks before it was certified to go back to full production. Production will increase from the 60 000 cards produced over the past three weeks during the testing period to about 120 000 cards per week.”
Msibi said they expect the backlog to be cleared by the end of August.
"Backlogs are dependent on the number of orders received. There is a catch-up plan to address the backlog, which will be cleared by the end of August 2023."
