South Africans, young and old are set to go out in numbers and be part of those who register for the 2024 National Election this weekend.

Eligible voters across Central South Africa will this weekend be part of thousands of citizens registering to vote in next year’s general elections.  

More than 23 000 registration stations will be open today and tomorrow from 08:00 to 17:00. The Independent Election Commission (IEC) National Spokesperson, Kate Bapela said 26.2 million citizens or around 66 percent of the estimated voting age population are already on the voter’s roll.  

He says lease agreements pertaining to permanent voting stations have been finalised. Of these voting stations, 62 per cent are schools, 9.7 per cent are places of worship and the balance include all other categories such as community halls and other municipal infrastructure.

Free State IEC spokesperson, Mathabo Rasengani, said its all system go across many of the stations this weekend. She said officials are ready across districts in the province.' There are a further 180 temporary voting stations across the Free State.
