Police launch first-ever online recruitment drive for 5,500 trainees─── 14:00 Tue, 01 Jul 2025

In a historic move, the police service have officially launched its first electronic recruitment campaign, opening online applications for 5,500 entry-level police trainee posts for the 2025/26 intake.
This groundbreaking shift to an e-Recruitment platform marks a new era for the police, modernising the way candidates apply to serve in the police force.
The online system, now live on the SAPS official website, enables young people across the country to apply digitally, cutting out paperwork, improving efficiency, and helping eliminate corruption, nepotism, and lost applications.
Applications now open
The nationwide online recruitment campaign kicks off today, 30 June 2025, and will close on 18 July 2025. The police are calling on motivated young South Africans between the ages of 18 and 35, with no criminal record or pending cases, to apply. Begin your journey toward a career in law enforcement by visiting www.saps.gov.za/careers and selecting the e-Recruitment portal from the drop-down menu.
Targeted skills in demand
While all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply, the police are placing special focus on recruiting graduates with skills in Law, Policing, Criminology, Law Enforcement, Forensic Investigation, and Information Technology. These applicants may be considered for specialised units such as:
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI)
Detective and Forensic Services
Crime Intelligence (CI)
Applicants will undergo a thorough selection process, including:
Psychometric assessments
Physical fitness tests
Integrity screening
Medical evaluations
Fingerprint and vetting checks
Successful candidates will be enrolled in a nine-month training programme at SAPS training academies nationwide. During this time, trainees will receive a monthly stipend of R4,500.
Continued commitment to youth employment
The new digital recruitment drive supports the ongoing Project 10 000 initiative, spearheaded by President Cyril Ramaphosa. Over the past three years, this effort has resulted in 30,393 young people becoming fully trained police officers. Currently, 5,500 trainees are completing their training and are set to graduate in August and December 2025.
No fees – no middlemen
SAPS reminds applicants that the recruitment process is completely free, and no job within the organisation is for sale. All applications must be submitted only via the official SAPS e-Recruitment portal.
