ANC will not allow Zuma ‘to run away with MK’ | News Article

“If Zuma wants to form a party it is fine – he can call it Msholozi, he can call it Zuma, he can call it whatever he wants to call it.”

The ANC has taken major steps towards its former president to try and return stability to the party's political spheres.

This after the ANC and the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party squared off in the Electoral Court in Bloemfontein on Tuesday. The ANC wants the court to review and set aside the MK Party’s registration with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa. Zuma's legal representation said the ANC had abused the court by not going to the IEC first and argued the application was doomed to fail.

While addressing party members yesterday, Mbalula said the ANC will not allow its former leader to run off with its military wing, which is an integral part of the history and heritage of the ANC.

“We are fighting a legal battle inside there. But it doesn’t end here, it continues. We are confident with the arguments we have put forward before the court and respect the court to allow us to explain ourselves. That is what the Electoral Court is for,” he added.

Mbalula said the party will continue to fight for its assets, including the MK logo, despite the court outcome which is expected on Wednesday. Judgment was reserved after arguments by the legal representatives of the MK Party and the ANC yesterday.

“If Zuma wants to form a party, it is fine – he can call it Msholozi, he can call it Zuma, he can call it whatever he wants to call it. But we’ll never leave him to run away with MK because uMkhonto weSizwe belongs to the ANC and the people of South Africa.”

Mbalula said the party has decided to suspend the membership of Zuma.
