Bloemfontein - Free State Stars spokesperson, Lebohang Maketa, has neither denied nor confirmed reports that Reuben Thebakang and Daniel Cardoso have been targeted by the Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs.
The defensive duo has been linked with several Premier Soccer League outfits since the conclusion of the season, but Maketa said no formal approach had been made as yet.
“We haven’t heard of anything. There hasn’t been a formal approach from them. So I can’t say more because it isn’t on the table as yet,” he told OFM Sport.
Apart from Amakhosi, the 25-year old Cardoso is also said to be on the radars of Wits, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Maritzburg United while Chippa United are believed to have also joined the race to pen the signature of Thebakang.
Ea Lla Koto have recently parted ways with Sadat Ouro-Akoriko, who joined Amazulu after signing a pre-contract with the Durban-based side in January, and will be looking to hold on their defenders despite an huge demand arousing from PSL teams.
Maketa highlighted that the on-going demand for Stars players by several teams does not surprise him at all.
“We’re not surprised at all. At the end of the day, there will be teams who will be signing cheques because of the potential and quality they see in my players and that describes what Free State Stars are all about,” he added.
Stars have also parted ways with playmaker, Luyolo Nomandela, who has joined the league champions, Sundowns, on a three year deal.
