Real Madrid and Portuguese international striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, silenced his critics by scoring a goal in Reals’ 2-0 UEFA Champions League last 16 first leg win over Roma.

The player, who stormed out of a press conference the day before when asked about his away goal scoring ability of late, opened the scoring at Olimpico in the 57th minute.

The ten-time European champions sealed the away win in the 86th minute when Jesse Ruiz found the back of the net for Los Blancos.

In Thursday night’s other game, Gent were beaten 3-2 by Wolfsburg.

Julian Draxler scored on either side of the break for his brace, before Max Kruse sent Wolfsburg 3-0 up in the 60th minute.

The Belgium side scored twice in the last 10 minutes to keep their chances alive, going into the second leg.

Meanwhile, in the Spanish La Liga last night, Argentina and Barcelona striker Lionel Messi scored a brace as Barca beat Sporting de Gijon 3-1.

The double by Messi saw the player score his 300th and 301st goals in the La Liga, becoming the first ever play to achieve the feat.
