Bafana Bafana will be aiming to lift their first COSAFA Cup title since 2021 when they take on defending champions Angola in Sunday’s final in Bloemfontein.

Angola go into the match as favourites, having been the most dominant and well-drilled side in the tournament. The Palancas Negras have impressed with their physicality, pace, and clinical finishing, netting a plethora of goals throughout their campaign.

They underlined their dominance once again on Friday afternoon, 13 June, with a commanding 4–1 victory over Madagascar in the semi-finals at the Toyota Stadium.

That said, South Africa have also shown strong form. They’re well-disciplined, potent in attack, and rock-solid at the back. Playing on home soil adds extra motivation, and the team is drawing inspiration from recent successes by other national sides – including the senior Bafana Bafana team and the 2025 U20 AFCON champions, Amajita.

In the semi-finals, South Africa, were also dominant in beating an ill-disciplined Comoros 3-1 on Friday.

Bafana goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa says the squad needs no added motivation heading into the final, but they are fully aware of the threat posed by Angola.

“You can expect a more dominant South African team compared to the group stages and the semi-final, because Angola are a very good side and we’ll need to be firing on all cylinders in the final,” said Mbanjwa.

“They’re a very physical, fast, and direct team and we know that’s what we’re up against.”

“Personally, it means a lot to me as it’s my first Bafana Bafana call-up, so this match holds great significance. For some of the other guys as well, it's their first cap, so it’s a big moment individually and for the team as a whole – especially with all the success our national teams are currently enjoying. We don’t want to be left behind.”

Sunday’s action at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 12:00 with the bronze-medal match between Comoros and Madagascar, followed by the final between South Africa and Angola at 15:00.
