History will be made on Sunday at the Slaughterhouse─── MORGAN PIEK 11:19 Sun, 28 Sep 2025

More than just bragging rights will be on the line on Sunday afternoon when Siwelele FC and Marumo Gallants lock horns in Rocklands in what will be a historic Premier Soccer League clash in Bloemfontein.
For the first time, a Bloemfontein derby will be contested when the “little brother” hosts the “big brother” at the iconic Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium. Apart from it being the first official meeting between these two city rivals, the fixture will also be about winning over the hearts and minds of supporters who, until now, have generally backed both sides.

The introduction of Siwelele as a replacement for Bloemfontein Celtic sold a dream to the fans. But with only one win so far and sitting bottom of the log, they have fallen well short – though the season is still far from over.
A single good month in the PSL can change everything. Just ask Marumo, who were in a similar position as recently as March before turning their fortunes around with a famous victory over Orlando Pirates.
Siwelele coach Lehlohonolo Seema remains confident that, despite their 2–1 defeat to Pirates on Tuesday, fans can expect a different team on Sunday in terms of mindset, attitude, and determination.
“Our team is performing well, so I’m expecting a fight – and we’ll give them a fight,” said the legendary former Celtic captain, his voice still hoarse after the midweek clash.
“Come the 90 minutes on Sunday, we’ll be the winners.”
He said while the three points are crucial, the players also feel a responsibility to deliver for their loyal supporters.
“And of course, we want to do it for our fans. Just look at them – many teams lose, or go through a run of bad results, and the supporters disappear. But ours are still here for us.
“So it’s not just me, the whole dressing room is grateful. It’s only a matter of time. We want to make our supporters proud.”

On paper, Marumo are the clear favourites. They’ve enjoyed a stronger campaign than Siwelele and have managed positive results against the so-called “big three” – beating Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates, and holding Kaizer Chiefs to a 1–1 draw in Soweto on Wednesday night.
Sunday’s highly anticipated derby at the Slaughterhouse is set to kick off at 15:00 in what is expected to be a wet and chilly Bloemfontein.
