Lamb and Mutton SA ‘ Recipe Share’

Monday’s featured recipe:

Rina Engelbrecht’s Mutton Chops with Tangy Sauce

"This is a recipe from my late mother that’s still a firm favourite in our family"

Directions:

1) Fry up one onion in a heavy bottomed saucepan with some oil until soft.

2) Set aside.

3) Fry 4-6 mutton chops until light brown.

4) Add onions and following sauce:

     2 tablespoons flour

     1 tablespoon syrup

     2 teaspoons tomato sauce

     2 cups stock

     Half a teaspoon thyme

     Braai spice, salt and pepper to taste

5) Simmer on low heat until chops are soft and sauce thickens.

6) Serve with rice or baked potatoes and green salad.
