Dutch football legend, Johan Cruyff, has passed away at his family home in Barcelona.
The three-time World Footballer of the Year's personal website posted this short message on its home page:
"On March 24, 2016, Johan Cruyff (68) died peacefully in Barcelona, surrounded by his family after a hard fought battle with cancer. It’s with great sadness that we ask you to respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief."
Cruyff had been suffering from lung cancer for the past eight years.
During his playing career he led Ajax to three European Cups, as well as leading the Holland team to the finals of the 1974 World Cup, where they were beaten by West Germany.
As a coach, Cruyff also guided Barcelona to their first European Cup victory in 1992, together with three successive La Liga titles between 1991 and 1994.
