Prospective hair stylists, beauticians, interior designers, and photographers now have the opportunity to acquire not only the skills to ply their trade, but also open your own business with an *academic bursary to study one of these full-time qualifications offered at Potchefstroom Academy & SAAHST:


Somatology 

Diploma in Somatology (NQF level 6) – 3 years full time.

Somatology is a multi-purpose career involving treating a variety of skin and body conditions in a holistic and health-related approach. The qualification encompasses training in basic and advanced skin and body care including anti-ageing and slimming, various spa and massage techniques, as well as the aesthetic aspects of the skin and body such as make-up, temporary and permanent hair removal, hand and foot treatments.

Cosmetology 

Further Education and Training Certificate: Cosmetology (NQF Level 4) – 1-year full time.

Do you have a keen interest in beauty treatments or are you looking to enter a new profession? If so, the SAAHST Cosmetology Certificate provides students with all the necessary practical and theoretical knowledge to enter the Beauty Therapy industry. It is also an extremely useful additive to other qualifications such as hairdressing, photography, advertising and media. The qualification will also enable learners to continue with relevant learning at higher levels providing articulation possibilities.

Hairdressing 

QCTO Occupational Certificate in Hairdressing (NQF level 4) – 2 years full time plus 1-year industry experience.

SAAHST offers training that focuses on all relevant aspects of the hairdressing industry. Students are kept up to date with the latest hairdressing trends by means of workshops, hair shows and competitions. The high standard of training allows the student to stand out from the crowd.

Interior Design 

Diploma in Interior Design (NQF level 6) – 3 years full time.

As an interior designer, you require the innate ability to be creative, enjoy solving problems and to visualize spaces three-dimensionally, whilst addressing the client’s needs. Interior designers are independent and innovative thinkers, who create inspiring functional and socially responsible built environments. The scope of this interior design qualification includes private, residential, and corporate spaces, as well as the upliftment of public areas.

Photography 

2 year full-time qualification:

1st Year: Higher Certificate in Photography (NQF Level 5) – 1-year full time.

2nd Year: Advanced Certificate in Photography (NQF Level 6) – 1-year full time.

The Higher Certificate in Photography will give you the opportunity to apply your creativity and express yourself through your work. Students will be prepared for the exciting world of photography and equipped to work in all facets of the industry, whether for themselves or in the employment of leading businesses, both locally and abroad. Potchefstroom Academy will ensure that you receive an engaging, fun-filled experience and an accredited qualification, which gets you a step closer to achieving your dreams. The Advanced Certificate in Photography allows for further specialisation as a professional advantage.

In 2003, SAAHST, a Technical and Vocational Education and Training institution who provides expert training in Hairdressing, Business Management Studies, Cosmetology and Nail Technology was acquired. SAAHST also offers a variety of career-focused short courses that are specifically targeted at updating and extending your skills. In addition, SAAHST is an accredited National Artisan Moderation Body’s (NAMB) Trade Test Centre for Hairdressing.

To be considered for the bursary, follow these steps:

1. Identify the course for which you’ll be applying.

2. Create a 30-second video in which you showcase your skills in either make-up, hairdressing, photography or interior design (applicable to course you have selected) and tell us why you’ll be a deserving bursary holder at the end of the video. (The video length should be 30-seconds in total.

3. Upload this video as an MP4 (size limit 10 MB) in the applicable field below.

4. Then, complete the entry form below.

5. Note that you are also required to upload:

  • A copy of your ID document;
  • A certificate applicable to the basic entry requirements (Matric certificate, results of matric record exam, NQF4 qualification);
  • Completed application form, available here.

6. Please note, interior design  require a skills assessment as well. See requirements here.

7. Make sure your entry is in by midnight 09 January 2022.

*Please note the following terms and conditions:

  • This bursary only covers class fees for the first year of study.
  • The bursary does not include accommodation and meals.
  • However, OFM will provide R10 000 cash to assist the student with any additional costs of study i.e. equipment, textbooks, meals, etc.
  • The bursary holder will be decided on by a panel of judges.
  • Finalists will be subject to further assessment and final interview.
  • The bursary holder will be announced on 17 January 2022.
  • The bursary holder will be expected to register for the applicable course by 31 January 2022.
  • The bursary holder will be expected to take up classes on 7 February 2022.
  • The application process is subject to OFM’s competition rules and privacy policy.
