The principals of the Secondary and Primary Meisieskool Oranje in Bloemfontein expressed their concern about the security risk that the Happy Valley area, adjacent to the school, is posing.

This follows after two crime incidents took place at the school grounds and the suspects were seen fleeing in the direction of this area.

The schools were forced to increase security measures and these incidents came amid the concerns of safety and security on school grounds countrywide.

OFM News' Cathy Dlodlo reports that the principals, Anne-Marie Klink and A. Albertyn, say it is not just the safety of learners that is of concern.

The principals of both schools say the area pose a serious safety risk, not just to the school but also to visitors and members of the public who cycles in the area regularly.

They say they will request the Mangaung Metro Municipality and Bayswater Police Station to take serious steps to clean and secure the area. The principals were reacting to an OFM report about parents who expressed concern after two incidents during which cellphones were stolen.
