Three dead, 15 injured in head-on collision near Grasmere Toll plaza─── 08:56 Sun, 21 Oct 2012

Johannesburg - Three people died and fifteen others were injured in a head-on collision on the R558 near the Grasmere Toll plaza this morning. Reports from scene indicate that the two vehicles collided head-on at around 07h00 this morning.
Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.
Netcare 911 and the provincial services arrived at the scene and were faced with absolute carnage, one of the vehicles was ripped open from the front to the rear wheel. After triaging the injured it was found that three people died on impact, two from the car and one occupant from the taxi. Two people sustained critical injuries, seven were seriously injured, and six escaped with minor injuries.
After the patients were stabilized on scene they were transported by several services to various hospitals in the area for the care that they required.
