#FlamingoRescue: Flamingo Saga to be treated as criminal case─── SAZLY HARTZENBERG 15:42 Thu, 31 Jan 2019

The flamingo saga is to be handled as a criminal case by a security specialist, who says that this situation has been coming for some time now.
Security specialist, Mike Bolhuis, told OFM News that when they got to the flamingos many of them had been damaged by the sun, dehydrated and frail. Bolhuis says, however, the rescue operation has been quite successful and that the chicks at the various institutions across the country are doing well.
"We are going to take this matter further and do a thorough investigation to find out why this has happened and find out why nobody has stepped up," Bolhuis said.
This comes after 900 flamingo chicks were moved to a safe premises due to the low dam levels of the Kamfers Dam and the heatwave that was approaching the city at the time. Bolhuis told OFM News that he followed the necessary protocol when he received the news about the chicks and got two groups of nature lovers together to help relocate them. Bolhuis confirmed that some of the older flamingos, as well as some of the chicks, have died thus far. The 900 chicks that were moved to his premises were stabilized by professionals and then transported to various accredited institutions for further care.
He added that another challenge is that the dam keeps shrinking and if it continues the older flamingos will leave and 6 – 8000 juvenile flamingos will be left behind. Bolhuis said that they appreciate everything the public, as well as the media, has been doing to help this project.
For anyone who would still like to donate something for the chicks, you can get in contact with Bolhuis at mikebolhuis1@gmail.com with the heading Flamingo Project.
