Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing school property worth an estimated R320 000 in Makgobistad village, outside Mahikeng.

North West police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, confirms that the suspects allegedly broke in at the Mmoledi Secondary School in the early hours of yesterday, stealing 12 laptops, 155 tablets and 12 smart pads.

Mokgwabone says police responded to a complaint about a burglary taking place at the school, and on their arrival they noticed a vehicle had been used during the break-in.

He explains police followed the tracks up to the Bray road passing, on the N18, in the direction of Mahikeng. He says that the police drove towards the vehicle in an attempt to stop it, but the suspect who was driving accelerated.

Mokgwabone says that a car chase ensued, and the suspects’ vehicle was eventually stopped. He says during a search of the vehicle the stolen items, and equipment used for breaking in, were discovered. “The duo will appear in the Molopo Magistrates' Court in Mmabatho 31 August 2020 for possession of suspected stolen goods”, he added.
