A post office in Welkom in the Free State fell victim to robbers on Friday in a concerning spate of robberies at post offices countrywide.
The St Helena Post Office was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money by three gun-wielding men.
Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, says the trio surprised two female officials at the Post Office in Welkom this morning at around 09:00. One of the suspects pulled a gun on the officials and demanded money at gunpoint. She says these gunmen took a sizeable amount of money in a safe located at the back office before fleeing the scene in a maroon Renault, with no front numberplates.
In November 2020, the Free State police arrested suspects in connection with the armed robbery that took place at a Botshabelo Post Office.
Meanwhile, Mbambo says the police have opened a case of business robbery for further investigations in relation to the Welkom post office robbery.
