Witness in murder case missing─── 12:00 Thu, 19 Aug 2021
The Free State police have launched a manhunt for a key witness in a race against time as the murder case goes to trial.
Free State police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, said that during the investigation, Denaldro Slinger, who is said to be a witness, provided the police with a statement that is supposed to be heard in court when the case goes to trial from 30 August 2021 to 3 September 2021. The police, however, seem to have lost their witness as they are unable to track him down.
Mbambo said the police lost contact with the witness after he had changed his residential address and contact details. She said on 6 May 2015, Theo van Wyk was killed at his residential place in Elangeni Complex in Bloemfontein. It is alleged that he was knocked with a blunt object on the head, whilst waiting for his wife to open the door. Police were called and suspects were successfully arrested and charged, following a manhunt.
Police are pleading to anyone who knows Slinger’s whereabouts to contact Captain Kelaotswe Lebodu of Bayswater SAPS in Bloemfontein on 082 466 8618 or contact the nearest police station.
