Amplats employee killed in fire at Union Mine named─── DANE BEISHEIM 11:45 Sat, 06 Jun 2015
Rustenburg - Anglo American Platinum has named the miner that died on Tuesday at one of its mines as Christiaan Kok.
According to a statement issued by the mining giant, Kok was a shift supervisor at Anglo American Platinum’s Union Mine in Rustenburg.
He was killed on Tuesday when an office building at Spud Shaft burnt down.
Mine spokesperson Mpumi Sithole said the mine’s fire brigade was alerted to a fire at the shaft in the early hours of the morning. Upon extinguishing the blaze they discovered Kok’s body.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
