Parly committee lashes out at Labour department─── 08:41 Wed, 04 Nov 2015
Cape Town - Parliament's Select Committee on Economic and Business Development has lashed out at the Department of Labour, questioning its commitment to fighting rising unemployment.
Committee chairperson, Eddie Makue, said while the criticism may appear harsh, there is a need to implement recommendations to improve the lives of all South Africans.
Makue says he's concerned that while the Department of Labour is reporting under-expenditure and missed targets, scores of South Africans are unemployed.
He says the Department revealed in its annual report for the 2014/15 financial year that well over R100 million in budgeted funds had not been used and was returned to National Treasury.
Makue called on the Department of Labour to introduce the concept of consequence management and to stick to the 30-day payment principle as espoused by the government.
