Sundowns beat Powerlines FC 24 - 0 in Nedbank Cup─── 08:25 Mon, 05 Mar 2012
Mamelodi Sundowns destroyed the record books with a 24-0 annihilation of fourth-tier side Powerlines FC to reach the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup yesterday afternoon.
Man of the match Hlompho Kekana scored seven goals, Nyasha Mushekwi six, Richard Henyekane five, while Elias Pelembe, Lebohang Mokoena and new signing Samuel Julies each got two at the GWK Stadium.
The victory bettered AmaZulu's 16-0 defeat of amateur outfit Bizana Lucky Stars - a record which had stood since 1986. It took eight minutes before Kekana opened the floodgates in Kimberley, with the Brazilians 10-0 up at the break.
Johan Neeskens's men continued the onslaught after the restart with Mokoena scoring the final goal in optional time after being unselfishly teed by Kekana.
