Die week in die Kultuur Kruiwa!

Die NWU verwelkom 'n Duitse blaasorkes Maandag 27 Augustus in die amfiteater by die universiteit. Kom wees deel van hulle gesellige etensuurkonsert om 13:10. Toegang is gratis, en almal is welkom daar. Die Stadtkapelle Fellbach bestaan uit 'n vyftigtal musikante uit die omgewing van Fellbach wat gereeld internasionaal optree. Hulle vrolik graag allerlei geleenthede en feeste op met 'n wye verskeidenheid blaasmusiek.

In 2004 het die Stadtkapelle Fellbach na China getoer, en vanjaar reis hulle van die Kruger Wildtuin na George en Kleinmond tot in Kaapstad. Hulle tree ook saam met skoolorkeste in massaorkeste op in Bloemfontein. Kom ontspan in egte Duitse styl!

Die Absa KKNK is op soek na ’n kunstenaar wat vir die volgende drie jaar dié gesogte Kanna-beeldjies kan ontwerp en vervaardig. Die wenner van dié kompetisie ontvang R10 000 kontant en ’n kontrak vir die vervaardiging van die beeldjies van 2013 tot 2015. Uitnemende kuns by die Absa KKNK word nog altyd beloon en sedert 2001 is die Kanna-toekennings die platform vir die verering van topgehalte werk in verskillende genres. Visuele voorstelle en konsepontwerpe moet die Programbestuurder, Theo Kemp, voor 3 September 2012 bereik, per e-pos. Finally A Night of 1000 Drawings has arrived in Bloemfontein.

This once off exhibition is presented in conjunction with Fractal at the Oliewenhuis Reservoir. It takes place tonight the 23rd of August. Drawings created during the various drawing evenings, as well as drawings by established South African artists will be on sale.

All donated drawings, drawn on A5 sized paper, will be for sale at R100 per item. Funds raised at the A Night of 1000 Drawings evening will be donated to Pholoho School for children with disabilities. The event will start at 19:00 at the Reservoir, with entertainment by Top Deck; a cash bar will also be available.

The Director of the NWU School of Music, Prof Karendra Devroop, will lead his own jazz combo, The Karén Devroop Jazz Quartet, in a performance on Tuesday 28 August 2012 at 19:30 in the Conservatory Hall.

This will be their last performance in South Africa before departing for Thailand to perform at the Samui International Jazz Music Festival. The programme for this concert will include music from Charlie Parker to Pat Metheny, as well as several of Karén Devroop's own compositions. Tickets are available at www.artema.co.za

Laastens is daar 3 nuwe uitstallings wat ook binnekort open waarvan die Kultuur Kruiwa jou vroegtydig in kennis wil stel.

Die Ana Braan kunsuitstallin open by die Hoofmuseum in Potchefstroom die 4de September en sluit ‘n groot versameling van haar werke in so wel as beeldbou werke van gaskunstenaar Jan Kleynhans.

Jeannette Unite presents her solo exhibition “Paradox of Plenty” at the Botanical Gardens in Potchefstroom which runs until the 20th of September 2012. The “Paradox of Plenty” creates a comment on the environmental impact of mining reflects the techno-spasm we live in. Her works are inspired by 12 years of research and is truly a must see.

The Standard Bank Young Artist winner 2011 – Nandipha Mntambo – finally brings her artworks to the NWU Gallery as part of her “Faena” exhibition. Don’t miss her fresh outlook on traditional aspects of life.
