Sebokeng artist creates art using hairpiece─── 08:21 Tue, 11 Oct 2022
A Sebokeng artist has turned her visual work into a wonder by using hairpieces to showcase her talent.
According to Lebohang Motaung (27), who resides in Sebokeng in the Vaal, the most versatile part of the human body is hair.
This, as it can be changed, coloured, and styled in order to communicate your personality or how you feel to the rest of the world.
According to an article in DRUM Magazine, her striking piece titled ‘Formation’ used real hair on three canvases that were connected by braids.
Now she has added a visual wonder to it.

Motaung became well-known after her works of art went viral on social media.
Women are most comfortable while having hair done – you can tell by the gossip and the confessions that flow during the process. I wanted to communicate that message because when you see women at a salon they are always talking and connecting. So, to best show that I decided to use three canvases,” she told DRUM.

The piece depicts the interaction between a hairdresser and the women whose hair she braids.
Women can often be found making connections with strangers in a hair salon, which can occasionally result in lifelong friendships.
After graduating from high school, Motaung attended Vaal University of Technology (V.U.T.), to study fine arts before landing a job as a papermaker.
However, this job didn’t give her much opportunity to express her creativity.
An opportunity of going to New York presented itself for her knowledge about printmaking and there she was exposed to different arts.
In 2015, she traveled back to her hometown and decided to leave her job to focus solely on her art.
