Dance Pages is a flagship dance festival held annually in Kimberley in the Northern Cape. Its dedication to the arts and community development has made a significant impact on the lives of many young dancers and choreographers across the region.

The festival was founded to create a performance and experiential platforms for our dancers in peri-urban, rural and underserved communities. Letlhogonolo Nche, curator of Dance Pages, joins Yolanda Maartens in the OFM Art Beat.

Nche highlights this year’s festival program and invites those individuals from the dance industry to participate from 22 to 25 October.

Seeing over 100 dancers from ten organisations and companies being featured every year, the festival is a testament artistry transcends circumstances and greatness can be found in the periphery.

The festival was founded to create a performance and experiential platform for our dancers in peri-urban, rural, and underserved communities. In the bigger picture, the festival further creates job opportunities for dancers, costume designers, stage managers, photographers, SMMEs, as well as acts as a tourism attraction festival in the province.

The four segments:

  • The public performances
  • Schools performances
  • Workshops and dance dialogues that feature prominent experts and public figures
  • The awards programme.

The awards programe is where dancers, choreographers, dance groups, organisations and leaders of organisations are accoladed. Thus recognising their impact and contribution in the development of dance, including the quality of works displayed during the festival.

Dance Pages has impacted and contributed to over 300 dancers, 32 organisations from the Northern Cape, and recently two from the Free State, three from Gauteng, 34 schools, eight communities, 29 SMMEs, and over 8,000 audiences in the past ten years.

This year, the festival will be at the Northern Cape Theatre, in Kimberley.
