Bloemfontein - The National Debt Mediation Association (NDMA) has appealed to consumers to be aware of con artists who extort funds from unsuspecting victims.
NDMA CEO, Magauta Mphahlele spoke to OFM News ahead of the implementation of the Credit Amnesty Process on Tuesday next week.
It will see the adverse credit records of millions of consumers removed by credit bureaus for a three month period and will be followed by an audit process to ensure implementation.
Unlike in the past, paid up judgments will be automatically removed without the services of an attorney.
Mphahlele says while the amnesty will assist over-indebted consumers, unscrupulous collection agents are asking people to pay to have their records removed from credit bureaus.
