#Elections2021: NC IEC completes 75% of vote counting─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:29 Tue, 02 Nov 2021

The Northern Cape has completed almost 75% of vote counting at 12:00 with the ANC still leading the race across many wards in the province, whilst the DA and EFF are also making inroads.
The provincial outlook of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) results indicates that the ANC has 48%, followed by the DA with 21% whilst the EFF sits at 8%. According to the IEC, counting at 555 of the 728 voting districts have been completed with 133 of 232 wards in the province also completed. So far 408 seats have been allocated throughout 4 councils in the province.
OFM News previously reported that as much as 70% of the votes were expected to be declared by 09:00, whilst 90% of the votes were expected to be declared by 14:00 in the afternoon.
The IEC on Monday said by 14:00 there was a voter turnout of 24%, whilst at 17:00 28% was recorded.
The Northern Cape has completed the counting of 74% of its votes, followed by the Western Cape with 46%, and the Free State is in third position with 26%.
Meanwhile, the IEC Chief Electoral Officer, Sy Mamabolo, during a media briefing held on Tuesday said the rest of the provinces' completion rates range between 15% and 37%.
“The result capturing involves a number of processes, including the verification of the result slips, the capturing, scanning, and the auditing of the results. An independent audit firm has been procured for purposes of auditing the results,” he adds.
Mamabolo called upon political parties to act and speak responsibly as the result collation process unfolds. “As you will recall, the IEC had anticipated the prospect of a lower voter turnout already in July and approached the Constitutional Court. Nonetheless, the commission implemented an extensive education and communication campaign to ensure the voters turn out. This included educational programmes that assured voters that it will safe to be at a voting station,” he further adds
