Two children were reported missing in Bronville, Welkom, after they went swimming with friends.
It is alleged that the group of about seven children went swimming in a dam on Saturday that was full to the brim due to rainfall these past few days in Matjhabeng.
Community members say they were notified by five of the missing children's friends that the two are missing.
The police were alerted of the suspicion that the children might have drowned. A search was launched with the help of community members searching in the open field near the water where they were last spotted.
The community was in distress as they were alerted that the Welkom rescue team can only do a water search this morning.
This is a developing story as the rescue team resumed this morning.
The search and rescue operations are currently underway.
