Concerns have been raised by motorists and residents after a crack appeared in the bridge on Jim Fouche Street running across the Klip River in the Midvaal local municipality.

It is thought that the crack is the result of poor infrastructure maintenance.

It is feared that the crack could possibly pose a serious risk to public safety this rainy season.

Meanwhile, Midvaal Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Engineering, Gerrit Viljoen, has elaborated that the bridge is not going to cause accidents.

Viljoen has had a meeting with the Gauteng Department: Roads and Transport (Gautrans), which is responsible for the bridge, and they are now aware of the situation.
