Suspected online dating swindler nabbed─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:31 Sat, 07 May 2022

An alleged online dating scammer is in custody after being nabbed by the Northern Cape police in Cape Town on 4 May 2022.
According ‘to the Hawks’ provincial spokesperson, Tebogo Thebe, the 48-year-old suspect, Pius Emokpe, was nabbed for reportedly defrauding a woman out of millions of rands.

The suspect is alleged to have swindled a sum amounting to R3,4 million from the victim, whom he had met online after he allegedly lied to her about being an Italian national residing in Cape Town.
He allegedly borrowed money from the victim, claiming that his maritime company was experiencing financial difficulties.

Thebe says during his arrest an undisclosed amount of money was discovered in his possession.
Emokpe appeared before the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Friday on fraud charges.
His case was postponed to Wednesday, May 18, for a formal bail application.
